Grasser, fost protejat al liderului de extremă dreapta Jorg Haider în anii 2000, a fost supranumit în acea vreme de presă "ministrul glamour", datorită fizicului său avantajos şi căsătoriei sale cu o moştenitoare a imperiului Swarovski. Tribunalul penal din Viena a stabilit că fostul ministru a "sugerat" unui grup privat de investitori ce sumă să propună în ofertă pentru a câştiga la licitaţie un contract de dezvoltare imobiliară, făcându-se astfel vinovat de abuz de încredere. Grasser a negat faptele şi a anunţat că va face apel. Cazul a fost prezentat de media austriece drept cel mai răsunător din acest stat prosper din Europa centrală, notează AFP. Karl Heinz Grasser a fost ministru al finanţelor între 2000 şi 2007.
